DIY Upcycled Soy Candle

DIY Upcycled Soy Candle

I poured my own candles for the first time this weekend! I found a great tutorial from Food52 linked here. It's something I've wanted to do for a long time but never really got around to doing. I got the idea in my head from the movie "My Idiot Brother" which I literally remember nothing about except for this hysterical scene about recycling candles. It was much easier and a lot less messy than I anticipated and I will definitely do it again.

Over the past few months I collected a few containers to pour the candles in. I ended up going with two old glasses, a stroopwafel tin I got on my last trip to the Netherlands, and an old Voluspa candle tin. One thing that really surprised me was the amount of wax chips you need to fill the containers - the tutorial calls for 1oz (mass) of wax chips for every 1 oz (volume) of the container. I thought it was going to be way too much because the wax starts out about 4x the volume of the container but it turned out perfectly definitely worth measuring.
