End of an Era - Goodbye to the Baker Sofa
It's the end of an era - last week we said goodbye to the Baker sofa.
I have always been really lucky finding great thrift furniture and this sofa was just the best. I got it when I was moving up to Burlington five years ago from a moving sale for $200 in perfect condition. It was in a families second living room and I don't think it was ever really used. Even though it was never my favorite color, it was huge and comfortable and the best part of all was the cat never scratched it! but after five years of my butt planted on it it got a little worse for the wear. There were a few rips in the upholstery and the cushions were starting to loose their down feathers. The cushions really needed to be re-stuffed but being 100% down that would have cost a fortune and so I was fluffing them constantly to get the lumps out.
So a few months ago I started the search for a new sofa and my jaw hit the floor when I found out what it would cost to get something similar to replace it - I didn't want to spend $1,000 (which seems to be the entry for a decent sofa) forget $10,000 or more! and then I got so lucky again!
Before we had even gotten serious about buying something new, Maxx found a moving sale getting rid of an amazing sectional - asking price (drum roll please) $200! Could not have worked out better. I was so surprised - the re-sale market in Vermont is terrible. No one has nice stuff and if they do they are not getting rid of it! We got so lucky. We had to rent a U-Haul and get help from friends to get it home but it is so worth it (Thanks Dan!). It's much more modern and fits in more with our taste.
The best part is we listed the Baker on Craig's List the next weekend and it was taken the same day! It went to a wonderful new home :) Looking forward to sharing photos of the new sofa when I get around to doing a full post about our finished living room. I was actually planning a living room post before all of this with the sofa happened but now it will be even better!
