Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I document my adventures in home renovations and DIY. Hope you like what you see!

Towel Bar - What's old is new again

Towel Bar - What's old is new again

We are putting the finishing touches on the bathroom (it might actually be the first complete room revel I post so stay tuned!) It's so hard to actually feel finished with a room - the closer I get to "finished" the harder it is to get the last little bit done!

We have done a bunch of projects in the bathroom this spring - We finished the window trim and did a complete revamp of our built-in cabinet (pictures to come soon). Another finishing touch that I got done was putting in a towel bar by the sink. Sounds simple enough but it took me forever!

I had a really hard time picking a towel bar because there are so many different finishes already in the bathroom. The hardware on the claw foot tub shower is brushed chrome and so are the toilet paper holder and towel hooks, then our vintage hardware on the built-in cabinet is brass. The real problem is in the area closest to where the towel bar goes, the sink cabinet hardware is black (which I like because it matches the black tub) and the faucet is polished chrome (because it's the only one I liked at IKEA...). So I was really struggling with what finish to go with because it all such a mess. I bought a few options at Lowe's and nothing looked right in the space. Everything looked miss matched in the worst possible way.

Then a few weeks ago we took a trip ReSource (great store in Burlington that recycles leftover building materials, a lot like Good Will but for home improvement stuff!). I found a great plain steel towel bar that was the perfect size! and even better it was $2!!! for that price I felt fine taking a chance spray painting it and seeing if it worked in the space. I ended up going with white (surprise, surprise) and it turned out great! even better with the money I saved I got myself some great hand towels from Anthropologie :)

Let me know what you think! I am going to post the picture of the built-in cabinet soon and then it won't be long until I can post the bathroom reveal! How great would it be if I could finally do a room reveal after moving in a year ago!
